ACE heat pumps

ACE – Heat Pumps for Primary Air with Static Recovery

The ACE heat pumps are standalone units specifically designed for the thermal conditioning and, optionally, hygrometric control of primary ventilation air.

They are equipped with a dual energy recovery system (passive and active), inverter compressors, and EC fans, making them especially efficient units.

Description

Borealis ACE: autonomous reversible heat pump for primary air treatment (100% outdoor air) with dual energy recovery: crossflow static recovery plus refrigeration recovery, equipped with inverter compressors for constant temperature supply.

Structure made with anodised aluminium profiles with thermal bridge break and removable sandwich-type closure panels, consisting of two lacquered galvanised steel sheets with a PIR thermo-acoustic insulation core, 45 mm thick as standard. Interior of panels lacquered. Stainless steel condensate tray. Refrigeration unit equipped with scroll inverter compressors as standard. Coils made with copper tubing and corrosion-resistant aluminium-magnesium alloy fins.

Standard EC plug-fan fans with integrated pressure and flow regulation in the unit’s control system.

High-performance air-to-air static heat exchanger made of aluminium with Eurovent certification. Electrical panel with phase sequence detector, thermal-magnetic protection, and circuit breakers for each motor, phase sequence detector.

Standard filtration: G4 in extraction and outdoor air intake. Optionally, high-efficiency filters.

Proportional communicable control with IP and MODBUS connectivity. Communication gateways to other BMS available on request. Proprietary programming with periodic updates available. Optionally, on/off control.

FULLY AUTONOMOUS EQUIPMENT

ACE units are standalone systems, meaning they do not need to be connected to chiller or boiler water pipes or refrigerant lines. They come with their own control system and can be installed on rooftops or indoors.

Their complete independence and high efficiency make them suitable for working alongside any main climate control system, from boiler and radiator heating to variable refrigerant flow systems.

UNIQUE WITH INVERTER TECHNOLOGY

When designing a project with primary air units, it is essential to keep the supply temperature as constant as possible to avoid discomfort for users. If the primary air unit is not inverter-equipped, the supply temperature will vary significantly as the compressor turns on and off to meet the setpoint temperature. For primary air units, these variations can be broad and abrupt, and they occur out of sync with the operating mode of the machine; for example, when the compressor is off in winter, the supply temperature drops, and vice versa.

To prevent this effect, Borealis equips the ACE units with inverter technology in the compressors as standard. This allows very precise control of compressor power, avoiding fluctuations and maintaining a constant supply temperature, reducing operating costs as well.

CONDENSATION HEAT RECOVERY

Optionally, ACE units can be equipped with condensation heat recovery systems, capable of recovering between 10% and 100% of the unit’s cooling capacity. This recovered heat in summer mode can be used to preheat DHW at no additional cost, and as residual energy, it allows for a reduction in the size of the building’s renewable energy production system (solar, etc.).

OPERATION IN EXTREME TEMPERATURES AND HIGH PERFORMANCE

The regenerative refrigeration system, in which the air-to-air heat exchanger is combined with the refrigeration system, recovers a large portion of the energy from the exhaust air, making it much less affected by extreme temperatures than other refrigeration systems. This results in top-tier performance (SCOP, ESEER).

AUTONOMOUS CONTROL SYSTEM

The autonomous ACE units for primary air come with iPro control as standard, programmed by Borealis for this specific application. iPro is hardware manufactured by the Emerson Group with proportional control and integrated IP and MODBUS communication. It includes a web server with a page where the machine’s operating parameters can be viewed and modified. It can be connected directly to the building’s router, requiring only the connection cable, and monitored from any computer or mobile device (phone, tablet, etc.)

COMPLETE FLEXIBLE EQUIPMENT

ACE units can be equipped with different types of filters, humidifiers, silencers, UV sterilisation batteries, bypass for free-cooling, and other accessories.

ACR VARIANT

Borealis offers a special custom model, the ACR, similar in design to the ACE but equipped with rotary heat exchangers:

  • Sensible heat: Functions similarly to static exchangers, primarily recovering sensible heat from the exhaust air but with higher efficiency.
  • Enthalpic type: Exchanges both sensible and latent heat, with some moisture transfer to the supply air stream.
  • Sorption type: With higher thermal efficiency than the previous types, capable of transferring both sensible and latent heat with efficiency in standard conditions approaching 90% for both.

At Borealis, we offer a wide range of solutions for pool climate control and energy savings
