Borealis Energía Térmica has developed an indoor air disinfection system using ultraviolet radiation. Its purpose is to disinfect the environment against microorganisms and bacteria such as COVID-19 in indoor spaces through air conditioning systems.
This system, called ‘Borealis UV’, is based on the adaptation of UV-C ultraviolet light lamps to systems that condition indoor spaces. The only effective ultraviolet light is UV-C, being a highly energetic radiation with germicidal properties against microorganisms. Additionally, it provides double protection with high-efficiency filters installed in air conditioning systems.
This solution is a tested and developed air purification system by Borealis, which can be installed in both their equipment and spaces with other air conditioning systems.
WHERE CAN IT BE INSTALLED?
The BOREALIS-UV system can be installed in any place where people gather or circulate: commercial premises, offices, shopping centers, schools, hotels, hospitals, and clinics. This indoor air disinfection system can be installed in ducted air conditioning systems and through portable modular systems.
MAIN ADVANTAGES
This indoor air disinfection system is effective against bacteria and viruses, adaptable to any air conditioning system regardless of manufacturer, and safe for people. This solution adapts to the needs of each space and system, integrating into existing air systems or providing protection and safety in spaces without air conditioning systems. This new development offers easy installation and maintenance of the equipment, along with a simple and intuitive control for the best safety management of workers and/or maintenance personnel.
“Borealis UV” is a solution backed by Borealis’s 20+ years of experience implementing these systems in HVAC equipment for sectors like pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
EQUIPMENT CONFIGURATION
Borealis Energía Térmica’s designs adapt to and protect a wide range of existing air conditioning systems with various solutions:
- UV-COIL. Suitable for installation in the coils of Air Handling Units and Autonomous Heat Pump units. The UV light bathes the surface of the exchange coils, with reflection systems to maximize the lamps’ light.
- UV-LINE. Suitable for installation in round or rectangular air ducts.
- UV-BOX. Designed for spaces without air distribution systems or where portable systems are needed. These units are selected based on the volume of air to be treated.
INSTALLATION
Duct systems (UV-Line) or coil systems (UV-Coil) are easily installed with the included installation kit. This kit includes, in addition to the lamps, adjustable supports, an electrical box housing the ballasts, and quick electrical connectors.
In the system’s more complete versions, a radiometer can be installed in the lamp area, along with safety micro-switches and a communicable digital electronic control housed in the electrical box.
If installed in a Borealis unit, the machine’s own electronics can manage the UV lamp control.
“Borealis UV” systems can be integrated into a Modbus or IP network to monitor the operation of all UV assemblies in a building. This enables monitoring of lamp status, optimizing their usage and maintenance.
